Op Code Name Hypnos
Personal Quote I swear to fulfill, to the best of my ability and judgment, this covenant:
I will respect the hard-won scientific gains of those physicians in whose steps I walk, and gladly share such knowledge as is mine with those who are to follow.
I will apply, for the benefit of the sick, all measures [that] are required, avoiding those twin traps of overtreatment and therapeutic nihilism.
I will remember that there is art to medicine as well as science, and that warmth, sympathy, and understanding may outweigh the surgeon's knife or the chemist's drug.
I will not be ashamed to say "I know not," nor will I fail to call in my colleagues when the skills of another are needed for a patient's recovery.
I will respect the privacy of my patients, for their problems are not disclosed to me that the world may know. Most especially must I tread with care in matters of life and death. If it is given me to save a life, all thanks. But it may also be within my power to take a life; this awesome responsibility must be faced with great humbleness and awareness of my own frailty. Above all, I must not play at God.
I will remember that I do not treat a fever chart, a cancerous growth, but a sick human being, whose illness may affect the person's family and economic stability. My responsibility includes these related problems, if I am to care adequately for the sick.
I will prevent disease whenever I can, for prevention is preferable to cure.
I will protect the environment which sustains us, in the knowledge that the continuing health of ourselves and our societies is dependent on a healthy planet.
I will remember that I remain a member of society, with special obligations to all my fellow human beings, those sound of mind and body as well as the infirm.
If I do not violate this oath, may I enjoy life and art, respected while I live and remembered with affection thereafter. May I always act so as to preserve the finest traditions of my calling and may I long experience the joy of healing those who seek my help.

Physical Description While not particularly tall, Amadeus was always on the slender side, even if that slenderness is now a little less prevalent than when he spent more time running around on away missions. He does like to keep his fitness up though, and prides himself on maintaining his physique. He's got a smile that lights up his face, if not the whole room. He's got one of those resting faces that is almost totally unreadable, his expression is always serene, and only seems to register the deepest of emotions as slight changes.

Personality A long career and a list of qualifiactions can lead to one of two kinds of people. Those who are jaded, cynical and have to bite their tongue a lot and are generally pessimistic. Or those who while realistic seem to be able to take anything and everything in their stride, typically referred to as a calming influence. Amadeus is one of the latter, the eye of the storm in the flurry of activity that sickbay can often turn into. Not much phases him and he's certainly seen a hell of a lot and worked in a wide variety of medical departments during his career. Nothing much riles him up, and he can deal with almost any personality quirk a culture clash might throw at him, and even if he is pissed off you aren't likely to notice it. He's a man of subtlty and even his wife sometimes has trouble working out what's going on in his head.
Hobbies & Interests He likes whiskey, the real stuff preferably, though he does enjoy the advantages of flavour without the hangover. He plays golf, a sport for the patient if there ever was one, and in an almost bizarre twist, Trampolining. He misses taking long walks on the holodeck with his wife, but since his move into intelligence it hasn't been possible for him to bring her or their children on chips with him. He spends a lot of his spare time penning letters to all of them, so that even though they aren't always talking they always know he's been thinking of them.

Personal History For a long time people thought Amadeus was going to be an only child, and it wasn't until he was six that finally changed. He was an intelligent child, but always calm, and a calming influence on others. He was always there when someone got hurt to comfort them until help arrived. Nothing he saw ever seemed to phase him. No one ever questioned his desire to become a physician, or his choice to join starfleet to pursue his chosen career.

He didn't join the Academy straight away though, he attended Cambridge, achieving a first in his Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery, and then moved on to complete his residency in Madrid. It was during this time that he met his wife, Heather, as he was her mother's doctor when she fell seriously ill. Needless to say, his success in treating her certainly helped his chances with Heather, and the pair were married in 2380. They were blissfully happy, supporting each other through thick and thin, and Amadeus loved the way she could see the beauty in everything and capture it on a canvas.

She encouraged him to join Starfleet Academy, as he had always planned on doing, and with his graduation and yet another first, this time a Masters in Clinical Medicine, they discovered that Heather was pregnant. His first assignment was on Earth, which allowed him to be there for both her pregnancy and the first year of his daughters life, but the desire to travel soon had both of them itching to get out into space. Amadeus was never overly concerned with rank, it was all about the work for him, but it didn't take long before his wife and daughter were able to join him on board the ship.

Amadeus continued to study, earning himself several medical degrees along the way and apprenticing under a ships counsellor saw him start a branch from him natural inclination at physical care into mental health care, first with a degree in counselling psychology and then tying it more into his original skill set with a degree in clinical psychology. Not long after this he found himself offered the position of CMO, which he accepted.

Meanwhile his family continued to grow, with three sons joining his daughter over the years, and he loved watching them grow up, and was proud of every achievement and opportunity they took. He was especially proud when one of his sons decided to follow in his footsteps.

He was first approached by intelligence ten years ago, but with his sons not yet being adults he didn't want to find himself absent from their lives so frequently so soon. So he waited until his youngest was sixteen before taking the training, fortunately this even coincided with his wife being keen to return to earth to care for her parents. He returned to Earth whenever work would allow, and loved hearing about the things his family had been up to, was happy to discover that the young man his daughter had been dating before he left had become what seemed like a permanant fixture in their lives, met girls his sons brought home, different to the ones he'd heard about in their letters though. On one trip home, said boyfriend asked about marrying his daughter, and he was more than happy to encourage the young man to ask her.

He made it back for some of the planning, although not as much as he would have liked, and the day he walked her down the aisle was one of the proudest of his life, even if he didn't manage to stay on Earth for as long as he would have liked after the ceremony. He continued in his posting until it became clear another ship needed an experienced CMO, quickly. He was transferred to the USS Joshua Norton and his year there has been more than a little interesting so far. Honestly, he's hoping to have to help plan another wedding soon for a bit of a break!
